Congress woman Allyson Schwartz:Earmarks=Local control
Congress woman Allyson Schwartz (D) from PA. was on a local radio station a few day ago. She was being interviewed and was asked about the budget. Her first point of attack;this was the budget of George Bush and not Barack Obama. The failures of the Bush administration meant that President Obama had to sign something he did not want to sign.
President Obama could have kept a campaign promise by stating that he would sign the bill when the earmarks were gone. He didn't.
Next topic up was earmarks. She took another shot by stating that 40% of earmarks were requested by Republicans. If my math is correct, then 60% of earmarks in this budget were from Democrats.
Schwartz defended earmarks by saying, to the effect, that local people best know how to deal with their local needs.

States and localities doing what is in their own self-interest because they live, work and play where they live work and play; therefore knowing what is best for them.
What a novel idea. Too bad no one ever thought of it before!
